The Dogue de Bordeaux Society was officially put in place in February, 1997,
after months, (almost a year) of planning. It is a non-profit corporation,
registered in the state of New Jersey.
The day-to-day activities of the club are handled by a group of individuals
who make up the Board of Directors. They encourages open communication among
members, and welcome all Dogues, if they are show/breeding Dogues, or the
family companion. |
At this time, there are 342 members of the DDBS, and the list grows more each
day. (95%; renewals for 98 + membership is up 125%)
The DDBS has set forth a list of goals that it is aggressively pursing, such
as establishing and running a breed rescue, promoting canine education, prove
the natural working ability of the Dogue, to get all owners and fanciers
involved in the club, and to encourage the highest standard of breeding of the
Dogue de Bordeaux. The DDBS is currently working very close with the AKC
towards AKC recognition of the breed. The DDBS follows the only standard of
excellence for the breed, the FCI standard.
The DDBS follows a code of ethics, adapted from the United Kennel Club, that
is animal friendly, and is the common guidelines to dog ownership. A healthy
environment, proper records, breeding ethics, honest sales and advertising,
and an agreement to not promote, support, or raise dogs for fighting, facing
off, game testing, rolling, or pitting.
The club holds 6 regional shows and one national show each year with various
special interest specialties, and supported entries throughout the year. On
April, 18, 1998, the DDBS held their first National Specialty in NJ with a
record breaking entry of 69 Dogues de Bordeaux. The 1999 National is being
held in Georgia in April, and we already have a location for our 2000
National, Purina Farms, St. Louis, Missouri, on May 26-28, 2000. National
specialties are judged by guest judges from Europe ('97 - France, '98 -
Netherlands, '99 - France) who excel in judging the Dogue de Bordeaux.
The DDBS offers a club championship for Dogues belonging to club members, and
recognizes Dogues competing successfully in working ability events.
The (Bi) Monthly Slobber is the club newsletter and is published every two
months. In the newsletter are informative articles on dog care, scientific
advancements, and a variety of articles by club members, such as ;To Chip or
Not To Chip", by Keith Letourneau, or OFA and Penn HIP; by George Brown.
There are also committee updates, show schedules, and photos of members
Dogues.
The DDBS offers COMMUNICATION! All members are kept up-to-date on the
happenings of the club. They receive not only the newsletter, show news,
important news, and there is always an open phone line or chat room for any
members needing info from any of the committee members. All members are also
encouraged to participate in the committees, and are all made to feel
involved.
The DDBS is the only breed club to successfully establish and run a rescue for
Dogue de Bordeaux and Bordeaux mixes. The Dogue de Bordeaux Rescue of the
DDBS has assisted, fostered, placed, over 20 Dogue de Bordeaux. Almost every
day the rescue gets a call about dogs in need.
